The Berger Bungalow: My Four Best Tips To Manage Your Time Better

My Four Best Tips To Manage Your Time Better

It's tax season yet again! If you have been reading my posts for a while, you know that Ian is a CPA and does taxes. During this season, he works about 12 hour days, so I am in charge of running all of our errands, and taking care of the house + dogs, on top of my usual work and schedule.

When we do get time together, it is usually rushed, or filled with things that we have to do, if I don't have time to do them myself. This is why I have been focusing on getting everything done because the more things I am able to check off my list, the more time I get to spend with him!

If you are like me and have a million things to check off your to do list and only have so much time, you are probably wondering how I do it all, or you are wanting tips to help you do it all. So, today I want to share my four best tips to manage your time better!

I usually make a weekly list and a daily list. I write out a full weekly list so that I have one master sheet of everything that I need to accomplish and I pull tasks from my weekly list to my daily list, in order to take a huge to do list and make everything seem more attainable. I do a few things to prioritize. First, I create my big list. Then, I break it down into days to make my daily list. I make sure to focus on what actually needs to get done. So, if I have a due date on Tuesday, I make sure to get it written down on Monday so that I am ahead of the game. If I need Tuesday to finish it as well, I will put it as my #1 to do for both Monday & Tuesday. So, make your list, figure out what items are a priority or 'must do,' and then tackle everything one day at a time!

Fuel up
My issue during busy season is that I do not have time to eat, or the want to cook for just myself. The reason I say it is an issue is because I will go hours on hours without eating, just because I do not have the time...and that's not healthy at all. When you are in a 'go, go, go' mindset and have a lot on your plate, you need to make sure you fuel up for the day, in order to not push your body too hard.

Last year, I tried out Tai Pei for the first time and fell in love with the yummy entrees! I get what you are thinking - Frozen Fried Rice?! But, let me tell you something: each dish has exceptional flavor and it makes my life so, so much easier (and faster!). Not only do they make life easier because of how quick and simple they are to prepare in just minutes in the microwave (you don't even have to take the food out of the packaging!), but they are made with real, pure ingredients without preservatives or artificial ingredients!

Asian Food is one of my all time favorites, but it takes so long to actually go into a restaurant and get take out when you are on a time constraint and heating something up quickly just makes life so much easier. My issue with other frozen meals is the fact that they are packed with artificial ingredients, but I don't have to worry about that with Tai Pei, which is so nice. They offer many different choices and each package has flavor-infused rice, which is so nice! Honestly, getting Tai Pei saves me time and effort, helps eliminate the everyday, boring typical meals, and saves my life in a pinch!

Set a timer
One tip that I heard from another blogger is to set a timer when you are working on something that you do not want to be doing. You can do anything for twenty minutes! So, set that timer and get to work. Once the timer goes off, you can take a break, but typically, after 20 minutes of work, you are in the groove and won't stop even after your timer is finished. This is a great hack for getting things done when you don't want to!

Focus on yourself
Okay, so this kind of goes along with fueling your body, but make sure you are taking care of yourself when you are constantly on the go, getting things done. This year, I made the mistake of not taking care of myself for a bit and I ended up with the flu. Please, please, please do not make that same mistake! Get a lot of sleep, fuel your body with food (and lots of water), and take a break when you need to.
