The Berger Bungalow: August Concerts

August Concerts
Posted on:8.31.2015

Ian and I had quite a few concerts scheduled to attend this month which is awesome! Ian has always told me that he hates concerts, festivals, etc. but I think I am slowly turning him into a concert lover. Unfortunately, our Meghan Trainor concert was cancelled. You can read why it was cancelled here. I think that would have been an extremely fun concert to see - hopefully she will come back to Atlanta eventually.

We were introduced to Matilda's Under The Pines by Ian's parents. We went to a Mike Willis show there last year and ended up absolutely loving him. We saw him again this year, and when Ian's parents invited us to see another show at Matilda's this year with them and a few of their friends, we jumped on the invitation! This also happened to go along with my 101 in 1001 post because the show we saw was definitely not a band I would typically see. ;) When we arrived, we found out that Swami Gone Bananas was playing. I had never heard of them and was excited to hear them! Matilda's kept saying how Swami is always one of their best shows, but I honestly didn't think they were THAT great. They definitely were not BAD, but I don't think we will rush back to see them next year. We still had an amazing time with Ian's parents. We always have a lot of fun with them & love trying new places and things together. Even though the music was not the best, I'm still extremely glad we went. Plus, it checked off my 101 in 1001 item number 62: Attend a concert I typically would not go to. Woohoo!

On the 21st, we had tickets to see Alabama Shakes at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Let me tell you, they put on an amazing show! They are not a band we listen to much at all, so we were not sure if we would like them or not, but we were very, very impressed. I would 110% go back and see them again. In fact, I am looking forward to going to another show when they come back to Atlanta again! On another note, the opening act Lee Bains and the Glory Fires... not so much amazing. I could go without listening to them... ever again.

I am excited to find new concerts that are coming up! Let me know if you are planning on attending any fun ones. If you haven't read my 101 in 1001 post yet, read it here!

  1. Alabama Shakes sounded so familiar so I looked them up and they definitely seem like they would be a great show. Do you know of any free concert series in the ATL area?

    1. It was an amazing show! I still don't listen to them at home, but I would definitely see them again. I know they have "concerts on the square" in Marietta every so often. We live within walking distance, but have never been. Maybe I need to get on that. :) Other than that, they usually have someone playing at the food truck night in Alpharetta & every Thursday for Alive after Five in Roswell! I hope that helps some? :)
