The Berger Bungalow: Local Atlanta // Garnish & Gather

Local Atlanta // Garnish & Gather
Posted on:2.29.2016

My favorite part of life is food. You might think I’m joking, but I’m not at all. Just the other day, Ian and I were talking about how a lot of couples show their love through gifts, and spending money on each other. I don’t care about how much money Ian spends on me, BUT one of the ways to my heart is definitely through food. I love cooking, baking, learning new recipes, and especially eating. Right now, we are in a phase where we do not have a lot of time to come up with meals, grocery shop & sit over the stove for a few hours, so we started looking around for a company that could help us out.

Before our wedding, Ian and I did a meal service for a while called Plated. While it was okay, it was missing a personal touch that I really wanted to have. Fast forward almost a year, and I find out about Garnish and Gather through my friend, Arrin. I began researching it, and found out that Garnish and Gather is not only a local company in Atlanta, but they source their food from only the best, local businesses and farms! Most of the food is local & organic, and they only work with farms with humane practices, which I love. On their website, it says: "Our animals are all pasture raised, hormone & antibiotic free, and treated humanely. The chicken’s graze in fields, the pigs forage and root in the pasture and the cows enjoy grass their whole lives. All of our fish is wild caught in the southeast and is recommended as sustainable by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch.” Over the past year, I have become more conscious of what I put in and on my body, and I have read so many awful things about meat with hormones and antibiotics in them, so just the fact alone that their meat is hormone + antibiotic free & treated humanely made me want to order from them, but it gets even better!

When we received our first order, it was packaged perfectly. We received it via delivery (there are local pick up options, as well), and it was put in a cute freezer bag to keep it cold! When I took it out of the freezer bag, I was blown away. They put so much detail into absolutely everything - the meat was packaged so that it couldn’t leak onto your other items, the sauces were in plastic containers that you could reuse or recycle. Most, if not all of the other packaging was recyclable, the produce was so fresh, and the cherry on top was that they made it so personable! Our name was on everything & they even gave us a topic for discussion.

Since we first ordered, we have been very pleased and will continue to order a few times every month. Some of the meals we have ordered through Garnish and Gather are Botiwalla’s Lamb Sliders & cumin lime salad with cashews and mint, Valentine’s Day stuffed pasta in a sage butter sauce & salad with dried cherries (our favorite meal, so far), Falafel Pita with apple radish slaw & tahini cider dressing (AMAZING - I could eat this for dinner every single day), and Spiced Lamb with quinoa, beets & carrots in an orange vinaigrette sauce. Every meal has exceeded our expectations, and the best part is that they are always so easy to make & do not require us to have to sit over the stove for hours. Most meals only take about 30 minutes to make, so after a long day of work, we can come home to a healthy, well-portioned meal in less than an hour. How great is that?!

Like I have mentioned multiple times in this post, we have been blown away by Garnish and Gather and will definitely keep using them in the future! With all of the amazing things I have said, I do have just two small changes that I hope to see in the future. I wish there was a spot online to see your account balance. I had a gift card, but I couldn’t see how much was left on it, so I think adding a spot on the website to show how much “credit” you have left would be awesome! The only other thing I wish they had was a pick up location a bit closer to me, OR free shipping. I 100% understand why this hasn’t happened - they are a smaller company, and I am positive that if they offered free shipping, everyone would want that option & it would just take way too much time & money for them to do so. Maybe I can work on getting a company in the West Cobb area to become a pick-up area. ;) We are eventually moving to the Roswell/Alpharetta/East Cobb area (whenever we find a great location & house), so I really cannot complain too much about the pick up location!

Because it is so convenient and tasty, I think everyone in the Atlanta area NEEDS to try Garnish and Gather! It is the perfect gift for those around you, and even yourself. Are you ready to cook with me? I know that I am ready to pick up my bag this afternoon! If you sign up through this link, you will get $10 off your first order (and I will also get $10 towards my orders). Place your order here!
