The cold weather is finally here and Christmas is this week! If you are a follower of The Berger Bungalow, you can definitely tell that I adore Christmas time! It is by far my favorite holiday because of all the family time we get, and that is so important to me! It is so much fun gathering together, snuggling on the couch under a warm cozy blanket with a glass of eggnog in your hand, while watching a Christmas movie!

This week as I prepare for my guests to arrive, I will be checking off tasks to get my house ready for everyone. I love making sure our house guests are comfortable by stocking up on all the essentials, cleaning the entire house, and doing anything else possible to make our home feel comfortable and inviting.

Another thing all of you probably know about me is that I have a major obsession with Costco. Costco is by far my favorite store to shop at because not only does it make me try new brands that I wouldn’t have tried before, but it also saves me time and money because the products last longer! I love stocking my shelves and knowing that I won’t have to worry about running out of products while my guests are in town. It is definitely our one-stop-shop during the holidays; Costco really does have everything you could possibly need for hosting Christmas at your house this year!

To get my house ready for guests, Ian and I checked off our first task by running to Costco with our “essentials list.” Some of the things I picked up were: Charmin, Bounty, Dawn Platinum Advanced Power, Febreze Air Effects and Downy Unstopables. Growing up, these are the products my parents used in our home, so P&G has always reminded me of the good times we had. Not only do they remind me of the good times, but P&G is a top notch brand. P&G enhances my holiday hosting because I am not worried about the quality; I absolutely know they will be the best products to use in my house.

When we got home, I started cleaning the house right away. I made sure to do our laundry (Pro Tip: use Downy Unstopables to make your laundry smell amazing)! I swept, vacuumed and mopped the floors, I dusted & wiped down all of our surfaces, and I even cleaned our baseboards! We don’t have a dishwasher, so we purchased Dawn Platinum Advanced Power to make sure our dishes were squeaky clean. We decorated our Christmas tree, stocked our shelves with Charmin & Bounty, and sprayed Febreze Air Effects in all of our rooms! This is probably my favorite product because with pets, you need a product that will not mask odors, but actually get rid of them & this is the best product I have found! I also love the Christmas scents. Our tree doesn’t actually smell like a Christmas tree this year, so the “jolly pine” scent is giving me the Christmas tree smell that I love! Last but not least, I made my favorite holiday drink, Eggnog (recipe below) for everyone to drink over the next few days!

Thanks to Costco and P&G products, our house is clean and smells amazing! We are now ready to curl up by the tree with our eggnog!

Holiday Eggnog

Ingredients

4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1/3 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon vanilla (I love Costco’s huge bottle of vanilla)!
cinnamon to taste

Directions

In your stand mixer, place your egg whites and beat until you have soft peaks. Gradually add 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat again until you have stiff peaks. Transfer your mixture to another bowl.

Clean your stand mixture and then beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Add 1/3 cup of sugar and keep beating until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add your milk, vanilla, cream and nutmeg and stir well. Transfer your mixture to another bowl.

Whisk your whites into the mixture. Chill and serve. When serving, add a dash of cinnamon to the top for flavor. Make sure to clean up your mess with Bounty!

Caution: This recipe does contain raw eggs. Please be cautious when consuming raw and lightly cooked eggs due to the slight risk of salmonella, or other illness.
